Ken Barker

Ken Barker is the principal of Backyard Trails LLC and has been building and riding trails for decades, developing a deep understanding of what makes trail systems successful. His travels with friends and family to outstanding trails across North America have shaped a strong belief that quality trails connect people to landscapes and communities.

Before focusing on trail development, Ken spent 18 years in the field of education, where collaboration, innovation, and thoughtful planning were central to his work. During that time he led teams of educators in designing and implementing student centered programs.

As a trail builder, Ken is committed to quality, sustainability, and the overall experience of trail users. As he often says, “Building trails is an art form. Trail concepts and design best practices are based in science, but the final result is a work of art. This blending of science and creativity creates unique and memorable trail experiences. I strongly believe these kinds of trails should be within striking distance of every home.”
